This hurricane season has been an active one, with tropical waters churning out storm after storm, each one seemingly more terrifying than the last. One hurricane, in particular, hit close to home: Hurricane Irma.
By the time she blew into town, Irma’s fury had been tempered. Howling winds and surging floodwaters impacted the South Carolina coast, but the damage left in Irma’s wake was a mere fraction of what Floridians endured. A 10-foot storm surge wreaked havoc in the Florida Keys and more than 12 million people statewide were without power. The videos and news stories that emerged in the aftermath not only broke our hearts, but spurred us to action.
To help our friends in Florida rebuild and recover, M2 started a relief fund. But in typical M2 fashion, we decided to add a bit of competition to the mix. Thus, the Change Wars 2017. We’ll spare you the details, because, as you probably guessed, there was no shortage of trash talking – all in good fun, of course.
Both teams’ donation buckets grew heavier as the days passed, but in the end, the folks on the 2nd floor raised the most money. As TJ prepared for the obligatory whipped cream pie in the face, Kristin decided to take one for the team, too. Have we mentioned our leaders are awesome? (And also, very sticky.)
The funds we raised will be donated to the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida. This organization utilizes 97 cents of every dollar donated to provide food – and much-needed hope – to those in need. And while we know our contribution is a small drop in the bucket, the M2 team is proud to do our part.
